Let’s talk about a big chunk of the body (basically half) that can get overlooked: the back-body. Otherwise known as the posterior chain. And we’re here to flow for our back-body strength.
Of course there are physical reasons as to why it’s important to maintain strength in the back body, which we’ll cover, but there are also so many reason to maintain that strength for our mental stamina.

There is so much emphasis on the front of the body that is wildly important to balance your body out. Yes, focus on your core and opening your front body. But PLEASE remember about your booty, hamstrings and back muscles.
Balance your body. Balance your mind. Our physical body can (and will) affect our mental clarity and sense of ease.
But wait, does this actually affect our ability to do what we love and live well?
Yes, of course it does.
When we have a healthy, strong back body, we’re able to stand tall. You can open up the heart with ease.
You know what this turns into?
Standing in our power and feeling, knowing our worth because we’re physically able to stand tall.
We have backbones instead of wishbones.
Being open hearted so we can show empathy to others, and always ourselves.
Will it change your life? Probably not.
Will it maybe make you a better person? Most likely.
We’re never aiming to be perfect, but we can certainly work on being a little bit better each day.
If you find yourself feeling unsure of yourself, not confident or even judgemental, here’s what you can do physically to fire up your back body in yoga:
- Actively power up the back-body in yoga classes. When in poses like lunge (low or high) or any variation of chari, press firmly into the heels of the feet.
- Maintain the length of the spine. Reach through the crown of the head. Activate through the core.
Alright my strong, balanced mountain yogis, enjoy this flow. Know your strength.
