12-Minute Yoga Video for Inflexible People

Hello, my yogi babes! I’m excited, because I’m able to continue coming back with videos for people who may not be “yogis”. Yes, those who say “I don’t do yoga because I’m not flexible”.

*Do people still say that?*

I love to keep coming back to this because I WAS THAT INFLEXIBLE PERSON. I’m still slightly that inflexible person – working on it and getting better. I can’t do the splits, don’t have very deep backbends and do yoga to feel good.

Simple. Easy. Just the way I like it.

There is NO reason to make things overly complicated for yourself. And where that gets you? You become that person who says “I don’t do yoga because I’m not flexible”. 🙂

And guess what’s not a big deal? BEING INFLEXIBLE. Having mobility and proper range of motion is important, but being able to do the splits? Not so much.

If you’re that person, here are more ways for how you can make yoga work for YOU.

Slow and steady…

If you find yourself rushing through each pose and your practice, I challenge you to hold each pose for three breaths before moving on. Use your entire inhale and exhale to move you through transitions. By giving yourself this time to pause in each pose and transition, you’re able to better release tension in tight areas of the body.

Be consistent…

One of the biggest keys to increasing flexibility is to be consistent. Five minutes every day is likely going to serve you better than just going to a yoga class twice a month.

Be real about how much time you’re putting into this and see if you need to make space for a bit more. If you don’t have room for five minutes, do you even have a life? 😉

Keep it simple…

There’s no need to do anything fancy here. Find poses you like (or may avoid and maybe should do) and that work for you, then find your time to work with those. Don’t underestimate a simple forward fold, pigeon pose or low lunge. Becoming more flexible doesn’t require touching your feet to your head, okay?

Move your spine in all directions.

Every single day, move the spine forward, backward, side to side and twist. Move for as long as it feels good without the stress of taking a full-blown class.

  • YOUR QUICK TIGHT HIP REMEDY 🙌🏻 I’m not saying this will solve all your problems, but I am saying that it’ll loosen up the muscles around the hip for a bit 🤗. Save this the next time you’re feeling tight:

Come into a modified side plank with the top foot in front of you.

Press the hips up high and then lower the hips to hover over the ground - keep the core super engaged here.

Move back and forth before shifting to face forward, crossing top ankle behind the bottom. Reach as far over to the side, keeping the arms extended. *your whole side body will sing in rejoice*

Step up and bring the back ankle on top of the front knee for a standing pigeon. If you want to get crazy, hinge forward to bring the hands towards the ground.

Stay open tight-hipped friends.

I’m BACK after a super full and fun week in San Francisco. I started my new job and wanted to be fully immersed in it, and with that I wanted to apologize for the lack of dog photos last week. 😂

It felt good to focus on something new. And as I’m working on finding my new normal back home, I’m feeling beyond grateful for this shift in my life. Sometimes we have to make our own change. 🙃

  • Yoga is a tool🔨for your life toolbox.

It’s simply a tool for your life. For me, it’s crucial for maintaining balance in my body and mind.

With anything, I think it’s important to not let something entirely consume you - including yoga. Having one thing completely consume gets unbalanced really quick.

It’s been interesting this week to watch what I do with my time when I literally have zero plans - like, none. I had a couple lunches and calls, but not one full day.

Sometimes when I feel like I’m drowning in the busy-ness of life, I’d like to think that I could just spend my days doing yoga all day. And then when I get tons of time, I don’t do that. 😂 I’ve been able to enjoy time for CrossFit classes, runs, walks AND my yoga practice - and my body and mind feel so good because of it.

Here’s to finding your tools for your life, because they have to work for you!

P.S. please don’t call the Lululemon police. I found my way back to sweatpants from Target and I am in love with them. My love for leggings will never die though. 🙃

  • Your yoga practice is whatever it needs to be FOR YOU.

It can be fancy AF or not fancy at all. It can be done in Lululemon or not. It can be in a studio or at home with your online teachers.

It simply has to do this: SERVE YOU.

That’s it. It can be wildly simple.

The practice doesn’t care about the how. The practice just cares that you show up for yourself.
